K. Murphy Wilbanks is a recovering court reporter, sometime harpist, and a lifelong lover of words and storytelling. She has no qualifications for writing save for the terminally stubborn desire to articulate her overactive imagination. She lives in the Chicago suburbs with her husband, six-year-old daughter, two cats, and two harps — all of whom are suffering terrible neglect as she obsessively works on finishing her first novel, The Lesser Evil, after dabbling with it off and on for over a decade.

Hey! I just wanted to drop you a note and tell you that I enjoyed your story this week. I do a lot of work with scholastic chess and I got a kick out of seeing someone else write about chess!

  2. Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed it! The characters I used in that story are characters from the novel I’m working on, which actually has a chess thread in it, and what I wrote for the contest was how I envisioned some of their earlier conversations about the subject went when Thomas became interested and showed an aptitude for the game and his sister struggled with it.
